NovelloPro Italic by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFonts is a free high-contrast italic serif with a distinctly theatrical sweep. Long, tapered strokes give the letters an elegant, urgent slant.
Book covers are its strongest setting, especially for literary fiction, historical publishing, and fashion editorials seeking a refined but animated title face. On wine packaging or event posters, the broad capitals and curling lowercase forms can become part of an engraved-style emblem rather than serving as neutral text.

Novello Pro was designed as an Antiqua typeface intended to print clearly on low-quality paper and remain legible under adverse conditions. Unnecessary traditional weight was removed to support this purpose.
The typeface uses alternating thick and thin strokes. Its basic character forms follow traditional shapes, with short, round serifs joined to the letterforms at right angles. It also features horizontal thin strokes and right-angle joins in the stems of a, b, d, h, n, m, p, q, r, and u. The usual curved transition of the upstroke from the stem is omitted.
At ingoFonts, all fonts can be downloaded free of charge.
The downloadable files contain only a reduced font consisting of uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z. The complete font, including numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and ligatures, is available only with an order and payment.
