Hinweis des Autors

Pixl by Ryan Smith is a free pixel display font built from stark, large, square-edged blocks. The uneven widths, open gaps, and hard right-angle turns keep every form visibly assembled from a strict grid, recalling the rough economy of very early low-resolution screens.

Arcade game graphics are its clearest home, especially for score panels and title screens that draw on the blunt geometry of early digital hardware. It also suits electronic music posters and tech merchandise. In editorial design, it can turn section openers or feature titles about gaming history and computer culture into part of the pixel-based subject matter.

Pixl is a new pixel typeface. It is best displayed at 6 pt or multiples thereof for larger sizes and is 5 pixels high. Its x-height is 4 pixels, with a 1-pixel ascender and a 1-pixel descender.

Pixl has similarities to Susan Kare’s Five Dots and Jason Kottke’s Silkscreen because there are limited ways to arrange pixels in a 5-pixel-high box. It includes uppercase and lowercase characters, symbol support, and multiple variants.

Access to the extended character set, including symbols, bold, italic, monospace, and serif variants, requires purchasing the font from this website:
