Courtrai Schriftart

Courtrai, designed by Dieter Steffmann of Typographer Mediengestaltung, is a free medieval blackletter font with a stern, ceremonial silhouette, tall, tightly fitted lowercase forms, and pronounced thick-to-thin strokes. Sharp points and compact spacing keep the texture dark and continuous.

Historical publishing can draw on its manuscript associations for book covers and chapter titles, yet the same dense, angular forms bring a suitably severe edge to metal music merchandise and theatrical posters. Brewery packaging is another convincing setting, as the pointed details, diamond-shaped tips, and formal weight link old-world craft, dramatic performance, and darker entertainment imagery through a shared Gothic vocabulary.
